The ROTO-RELEASE is a bi-directional overload release clutch which provides a torsionally rigid driving connection up to a precise pre-set torque, at which point it disengages completely and rotates freely until the drive is stopped and the clutch is manually re-engaged. Complete release occurs within approximately 10 degrees relative rotation between the rotor and the body of the clutch.

To re-engage the clutch, stop the drive and align the rotor and body in accordance with the index marks provided. Then insert a screwdriver or similar tool in the re-engage slots and twist to re-align the plate slots. The clutch will then snap back into engagement.

This simple, unique design incorporates a minimum number of components, and with its hardened steel construction will maintain its torque setting through thousands of cycles. The clutch can operate over a wide speed range and can run disengaged indefinitely, with no heating or wear.

The optional switchplate extends automatically when the clutch releases, and retracts automatically when the clutch is re-engaged. Used in conjunction with a limit or proximity switch arrangement, the switchplate can act to stop the motor, ring a bell, or activate other warning or control means.

With the clutch-body shaft-mounted, a sprocket or pulley, or other drive member can be attached to the bearing-mounted rotor by means of the tapped holes and the pilot diameter provided. Input can be to either the clutch body or rotor, and rotation can be in either direction. Minimum size sprockets for each clutch size are listed in the tables.

Clutch bore sizes listed in the tables are maximums and smaller sizes are readily available, normally in even 1/8" increments. Specials and metrics are available at a small additional cost.

For direct-coupled applications a rigid coupling flange or a chain coupling assembly can be provided as shown on the specification sheet. When direct-coupled, shaft alignment becomes extremely important. As stated, the rigid coupling cannot tolerate any misalignment, and is normally used in conjunction with universal joint connections to the adjacent members. The chain coupling is a strong, low-cost connector that can accept moderate angular and parallel misalignment.
